Two-vehicle accident in Lamar County claims lives of 2 people Friday

Two people were killed Friday in a crash in Lamar County when two pickup trucks collided.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a crash at around 2:45 p.m. in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 11, south of Hess Drive, Mississippi Highway Troop J spokesman Sgt. Travis Luck said in a media release.

Luck said Charles Hemby, of Purvis, was driving south on U.S. Highway 11 when his Chevrolet pickup truck crossed into the northbound lane. Luck said the pickup then hit another pickup truck driven by Christy Wilkes, also of Purvis.

Both Wilkes and Hemby were pronounced dead at the scene, Luck said. 

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
