Bahrain Hockey, the official governing body for field hockey in Bahrain, will launch the Bahrain National Hockey League this month.
The league is aimed at introducing regular field hockey events for hockey teams based in the kingdom.
The league, spread across five weeks from April 21 to June 2, will be held at St Christopher’s Senior School in Isa Town. The league, open to all Bahrain-based senior teams, will have a maximum of six teams and the last day for registration is Wednesday. The registration fee is BD100 per team.
Bahrain Hockey President Saleem Elias said, “We are very happy to conduct this event as we are focused on promoting hockey and having increased participation from players of all age groups. The league is our first major event in 2017 following which we will roll out our plan for a very busy year of hockey. We hope to see a good level of competition and would like to thank the Bahrain Olympic Committee for their cooperation in supporting our vision.”
The league announcement follows a major milestone for Bahrain Hockey with the kingdom’s debut at the Asian Hockey Congress on March 29 which was hosted by the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) and Oman Hockey Association in Muscat. Bahrain Hockey won the Best Promising Member award during the event. AHF CEO Tayyab Ikram presented the award to Elias.
