A roundup of all the Seattle-area concerts scheduled June-September, including shows by Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Jackson Browne, Big Sean and Brian Wilson.
Time was, only an outsized country star like Kenny Chesney could fill CenturyLink Field with concert fans, but this summer no fewer than three acts are booked on Seahawks home turf — Chesney with Jason Aldean (June 27), boy (band) wonders One Direction (July 15) and pop (formerly country) star Taylor Swift (Aug. 8).
If you prefer music minus the 12th Man, more intimate summer venues in the area have an unusually rich lineup on offer, especially from the baby-boomer bin: Willie Nelson with Alison Krauss (June 27, Marymoor Park), Brian Wilson with Rodriguez (July 12, Benaroya Hall), Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell (July 29, Woodland Park Zoo), Jackson Browne (Aug. 1-2, Chateau Ste. Michelle), Randy Newman (Aug. 29, Chateau Ste. Michelle) and into the fall, The Who, with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts (Sept. 27, KeyArena).
If you’re a guitar head, you don’t want to miss Van Halen with blues-rock phenom Kenny Wayne Shepherd (July 5, White River Amphitheatre) and rap fans will want to take in J. Cole, Big Sean, YG and Jeremih (July 12, White River Amphitheatre).
Other special summer shows worth seeking out include the ecstatic blues-roots band Alabama Shakes (Aug. 8, Marymoor Park); the Capitol Hill Block Party, with Ratatat, TV on the Radio and others (July 24-26, Capitol Hill); and the West Seattle Summer Fest (July 10-12, West Seattle Junction). The complete list follows; check marks indicate recommendations.
