An Arlington Heights man released on parole earlier this year has been accused in the brutal attack and sexual assault of a woman in the early-morning hours of Wednesday in a woody area off West Central Road in Arlington Heights, police said.

Chadane C. Gordon, 25, of the 600 block of West Central Road, Arlington Heights, was charged July 1 with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery and attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to Arlington Heights Police Commander Joseph Pinnello. Gordon also was charged with violation of mandatory supervised release from prison, according to authorities. He was released on parole from Stateville Correctional Center in February after serving time for residential burglary and retail theft, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

According to Pinnello, police responded to a call at 5:45 a.m. July 1 of a woman screaming in a small wooded area along the 1600 block of West Central Road. When police arrived, they found a man in the process of sexually assaulting a woman, he said.

“When he saw officers, he fled on foot and was quickly apprehended in the 800 block of South Dwyer Avenue,” Pinnello said.

Pinnello said the two had met earlier in the night and spent some time together socializing. But when the woman said she wanted to go home, Pinnello said, Gordon insisted on walking her home.

Authorities said that at some point in the walk, Gordon grabbed the woman from behind and pulled her into a small wooded area. He hit her several times in the face when she tried to escape, police said.

Pinnello said Gordon also removed some of her clothing and used it to try to gag her.

In a release to the media, the Arlington Heights Police Department described the attack as “brutal.”

Arlington Heights paramedics treated the 39-year-old woman — who had major injuries to her face and head — and took her to Northwest Community Hospital, authorities said. Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, according to a release from Arlington Heights police, but she was still in the hospital due to their severity.

Pinnello said Gordon is being held on no bond and his next court date is scheduled for 9 a.m. on July 17.
