A MAKE-UP artist who suffered from acne has slammed expensive skincare brands after revealing a £9.50 cream cured her of the painful spots.

Kellee Kernohan, from Queensland, Australia, says she first started struggling with adult acne two years ago due to a combination of depression and a bad diet.

Posting pictures of her spot-covered face on Instagram, Kellee wrote: "I don't even know who this person is to be completely honest with you. Change can happen.

"You can see the progression and how bad the spots got. The first photo you can see how I KNEW it was going to get worse. I would never wish this on anyone.

"Not only did I feel horrendous externally but internally. I couldn't even apply foundation over my cystic acne because I was in constant agony."

Explaining to her 36,000 followers that she struggled to be barefaced in public, the make-up artist admitted she felt "ugly" throughout her acne battle.

"I know the feeling," she continued. "If you're struggling at the moment, just remember anyone can get acne - it's common in teens and young adults.

"But stop buying the expensive skincare [products] and instead look after the soul inside you."

Wanting her followers to step away from buying pricey creams and ointments for their skin, she added that feeling good in your mind and body can be instrumental in helping heal your skin.

Instead, Kellee championed a cheaper cream recommended by a dermatologist which has seen her "never look back" as her acne was completely cured.

The fitness lover told followers that QV's Gentle Wash was the one thing to calm her skin, which costs an affordable £9.50, and also helped rid of her scarring.

"[Acne] was a severe insecurity of mine which I'm proud I can now share with you all as you can see how far I've come," she told her followers.

Other acne sufferers took to the comments to agree with Kellee's acne-clearing method, which also included switching to a plant-based diet.

"You have spoken SO much truth here," one woman wrote. "I use a £12 face wash and I cut down on junk food and oils, and that helped me so much. No need to spend loads of money."

Another agreed: "Thanks so much for sharing this - you're so right. Putting your mind and body first over how you look makes such a difference."
