Coastal Roundup: Leroy runs past Clarke County, Faith Academy keeps rolling

Class 2A No. 4 Leroy stayed unbeaten in Region 1 play with a 28-14 win over No. 9 Clarke County on Friday night in Grove Hill.

The Bears (7-1, 5-0) broke a 7-7 tie in the second quarter after recovering a muffed Clarke County punt deep in Bulldog territory. Kelston Fikes scored on a 9-yard run and Leroy led 14-7 at the half.

Jason Massey’s team increased its lead in the third quarter when Jakobi Jackson took a screen pass from Logan Sellers 31-yards for a score. Jackson finished with three catches for 114 yards.

Leroy’s final score came on Sellers' 22-yard run in the fourth quarter to build the cushion to 28-7.

Avery Malone scored the Bears' first TD of the game on a 5-yard run.

Faith Academy 42, Satsuma 0

Christian Burnett scored on three long touchdown runs and Class 5A No. 8 Faith Academy rolled to another win.

Faith won its third straight game and improved to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in Region 1 play.

Burnett scored on runs of 68, 40 and 45 yards.

Peyton Bell opened the score with a 35-yard interception return for a score and Gabe Broadus tacked on a 55-yard TD run.

Shemar James capped the scoring with a 40-yard run.

Satsuma fell to 3-4, 3-3.

Baldwin County 34, Gulf Shores 0

Ryderius Brown accounted for three touchdowns as the Tigers won their second straight game.

Brown was 10-of-20 passing for 141 yards and touchdowns of 35 and 19 yards to Ty Mims.

He also rushed for 100 yards on 12 carries, including a 22-yard TD run.

Jordan Davis returned an interception 23 yards for a score.

Damonti Jackson had 8 tackles, an interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

St. Paul’s 35, Elberta 0

Army commit Javonte Graves-Billips finished with more than 100 yards rushing and also had a big night receiving as Class 5A No. 2 St. Paul’s rolled to a road victory.

Graves-Billips had 15 carries for 148 yards and scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards. He also had three receptions for 48 yards.

Bestor McFadden completed 10-of-15 passes for 122 yards.

Jaylen Sulton scored St. Paul’s other three touchdowns on runs of 11, 7 and 5. He finished with 56 yards on nine carries.

UMS-Wright 34, B.C. Rain 6

Cole Blaylock scored three touchdowns and Trey Singleton threw for two as UMS-Wright knocked off Class 5A, Region 1 opponent B.C. Rain, 34-6.

Blaylock’s 2-yard run opened the scoring for UMS in the first quarter, then he caught a 56-yard pass from Singleton to make the score 13-0 after one period.

Singleton connected with Edwin White for a 31-yard touchdown in the second quarter that left UMS ahead 20-0 at the half.

Blaylock had a 3-yard score, and Jackson Graham added a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to finish the scoring for UMS.

Rain got its only score on a 43-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Singleton completed 7 of 16 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Blaylock ran for 75 yards and two scores on 17 carries. White and Blaylock led the receivers with one long catch apiece.

Barton Elliott had an interception for UMS.

Spanish Fort 35, Citronelle 6

Sophomore QB Brendon Byrd threw two touchdown passes to Jacob Godfrey and ran for another as the Toros won on the road.

Byrd’s TD passes to Godfrey went for 10 and 24 yards. He also scored on a 5-yard run.

Aaron Threat had a 9-yard TD run and Virginia commit Micah Gaffney opened the scoring with a 34-yard first-quarter fumble return.

Carl Fauntroy had a 57-yard interception return called back due to penalty.

Tyler Miller led Citronelle with 21 carries for 70 yards.

Cottage Hill 41, Excel 21

Sophomore Kelvon McBride accounted for four touchdowns as Cottage Hill Christian handled Class 3A, Region 1 opponent Excel, 41-21.

McBride ran for touchdowns of 53 and 3 yards, threw for a 6-yard score and caught a 16-yard scoring pass from junior quarterback Kyle Hipp. McBride finished with nine carries for 91 yards and was 2-for-2 passing.

Hipp completed 14 of 20 passes for 254 yards and touchdowns of 5, 16 and 25 yards. Sophomore tight end Tyler Thomas caught four passes for 102 yards and two scores of 25 and 6 yards. Hipp and McBride each threw Thomas a touchdown pass.

Freshman wide receiver Kaden Washam caught three passes, including a 5-yard touchdown from Hipp.

Defensively, junior linebacker Joshua Gifford had 20 tackles, including one tackle for loss and one sack. Trent Thomas, a sophomore defensive end had nine tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Cottage Hill broke open a scoreless game with 20 points in the second quarter, then added 14 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

St. Michael 27, Lighthouse Christian 6

St. Michael won in its first game back from a two-week COVID-19 hiatus.

Sam Volovecky scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Timothy Mullek had a receiving touchdown.

Justin Helper had three interceptions.

Foley 35, Mary G. Montgomery 24

Reese Tynes threw a pair of touchdown passes in the second half as Foley broke open a close game Thursday night.

The Lions led just 14-10 at intermission but scored three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter.

Tynes hit Trenton Bolder on a 73-yard touchdown pass, ran for a score and then hit Harrison Knight with a 42-yard TD pass as Foley built a 35-10 lead. Tyles also had another 1-yard touchdown run right before the half to give Deric Scott’s team the lead for good.

The win snapped an 8-game losing streak for the Lions (1-6, 1-4). MGM fell to 1-7, 0-6.
