Omaha's first professional soccer team is getting closer to taking the field. Union Omaha announced the signing of 13 players Tuesday, as the soccer team gets ready to go.Union Omaha CEO Gary Green presented to the Sarpy County Board to bring them the latest info for the team."The fact that it's today on the day that we're announcing our players from all over the world, from Kenya, Brazil, Texas, Wisconsin, it's a great day," Green said.Thirteen players from six countries signed, Tuesday, the first for the team."There's not doubt that soccer is the world's game, and that our roster will reflect the diversity of the game's popularity around the globe," said Union Omaha COO Matt Homonoff.As the organization has prepared to field its first team, Werner Park, where the team calls home, has made changes as well to accommodate its new family. "Whether it's the retractable mound that was installed, or the modifications to right field, or the addition of laying sod over the infield, warning track and foul territory, all of that comes into play when it comes to creating a world-class playing surface for our team to play on," Homonoff said.Fans are already getting decked out in team apparel as they wait for the season to start."My family has already got our season tickets and we'll be going to every game," Ryan Youtz said. "Hoping to make that first road trip to Miami, too."Union Omaha plays its first game on the road in Ft. Lauderdale March 27. The first home game for the team is April 25.Season tickets are still available for purchase here.
