WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — A group of Waterbury residents at the Bunker Hill Condominiums reached out to News 8 after saying they haven’t had hot water and heat in their homes in 3 weeks.

They say they’ve had to boil water to wash themselves and stay warm.
Among the residents who reached out to us: Crystal Chillberg – whom is pregnant and due to give birth this winter – and Chillberg’s neighbor, Simone, who is physically disabled, paralyzed in parts of her legs.

“If there’s no heat,” said Chillberg, “how am I going to bring a newborn home in the middle of winter?”

Simone says her water woes compound difficulties living with a disability: “I shouldn’t have to be doing this. I already have issues just getting into the shower. Now I have to deal with this, too?”

“By law, we’re in trouble if we don’t pay our rent,” said Chilberg. “But, it’s basically like we’re squatting within our own homes. We’re boiling water, we have no heat.”

They just want some answers and for someone to help them.

The residents showed us a letter that states the owner of the property is a company called Eaton Springs, LLC. They say they’ve tried unsuccessfully to reach out to management of the property.

News 8 called the phone number listed on the sign at the entrance to the complex. A spokeswoman gave News 8 this statement: “This is not an issue that is ongoing and we do have a company that’s going out there to fix it.”

While News 8 was at the condo complex this morning, we did see a repairman arrive to look at pipes in the part of the complex where Simone lives. However, the residents who contacted News 8 weren’t getting their hopes up.

“They’ve had different men come periodically over the last 3 weeks,” Chilberg said. “They come, stay here for an hour or two, nothing is fixed and they leave.”

While we were leaving the complex, we met one resident who told us he’s never had an issue with his water and enjoys living there.

“I’ve been here for about 4 years now. I have not had one complaint,” he said.

But, for those residents still forced to boil their water for anything hot, they’re still steaming.
