Former national coach Victor Scerri passes away

Former Malta national coach Victor Scerri passed away today, aged 90.

Scerri was a former Melita F.C. goalkeeper, and also played for Sliema Wanderers F.C. (back then known as Sliema Athletics), where he remained until 1963.

Scerri was Malta's first goalkeeper in the 1957 national team debut vs Austria besides being one of the leading football coaches with Msida St. Joseph, Sliema Wanderers and the national team.

Victor Scerri was also former president of the Malta Football Coaches association as well as a leading figure with the Centru Sport Edukattiv of Fr. Hilary and Sliema Wanderers Football Nursery.

He served as national coach for two stints, for a few months in 1973 and then between 1978 and 1983.
