Pharmaceuticals, agriculture and engineering services are key industries where potential exists in expanding India-Bahrain bilateral trade, it has emerged.

At a meeting chaired by Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro to follow up on the outcome of the visit by His Majesty King Hamad to India, top Bahraini business leaders spoke about the projects and prospects being explored by them, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Diwani Holding Group chairman Abdulhussain Diwani said the company is exploring ties with Indian companies dealing in pharmaceuticals and medical products, as well as household items.

According to Standard Chartered Bank Bahrain chief executive Hassan Jarar, the food industry and logistics services were areas in which joint projects are currently being studied.

Nader and Ibrahim Sons of Hassan Group executive director Ibrahim Al Ameer said the company was in talks with Indian agriculture companies for more facilities to enhance export of processed food to Bahrain and the region.

Businesswoman Huda Sangoor said she was keen on investment opportunities in real estate sector in India, specifically in the engineering services field.

Others who participated in the discussions included P Haridas and Sons owner Bhagwan Asarpota, EDB executive director of business development Vivian Jamal, Nass Group chairman Samir Nass and Central Bank of Bahrain executive director of financial institutions supervision Abdul Rahman Al Baker.

Indian Ambassador Dr Mohan Kumar, who was also present, said the embassy was ready to provide all support to businesses on both sides. - TradeArabia News Service
