(KSLA) — This is a running list of ongoing road closures and lane shifts in the ArkLaTex.

BIENVILLE PARISH - LOUISIANA

  • As of Monday, April 8, 2024, US 80 from Oscar Kilpatrick Road to Martin Road in Ada remains closed due to a train derailment that happened on March 29. The railroad company is continuing cleanup operations in the area. DOTD will issue an alert when the road is reopened. Access to Oscar Kilpatrick Road and Martin Road will be maintained during the closure. At this time, there is no estimated time frame for reopening the roadway. Restrictions/Permits: Total road closure at the specified location. All vehicles will need to detour. Alternate Route: Eastbound through traffic on US 80 will need to utilize Exit 61 (Gibsland).

BOSSIER PARISH - LOUISIANA

  • DOTD advises motorists that as of Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the lane closure on I-20 W in Bossier City has been extended past the I-220 interchange to allow for continued repairs related to the major rehabilitation project that is currently underway. This extended lane closure is scheduled to be in place for approximately one week, and is necessary to allow for sawing and sealing of concrete panel joints on the interstate. Motorists should be aware that they may encounter delays, particularly during peak travel times in the morning and evening. In order to help relieve congestion and vehicle queuing, drivers should utilize the zipper merge method. This method involves staying in the ending lane and merging at the actual merge point when it’s safe to do so, instead of miles before the merge point. Inclement weather may result in an extension of the timeline for this lane closure past I-220. Restrictions/Permits: Commercial motor vehicles continue to be prohibited from traveling through the rehabilitation section of the project from Industrial Drive to Hamilton Road, and should utilize the alternate route of I-220. This work will be performed weather permitting.
  • Beginning Monday, April 1, 2024, the outside (right) lane of LA 3 (Benton Road) northbound just south of Flowerbrook Street will be closed. This lane closure is anticipated to be in place for approximately 30 days, and is necessary to allow an outside contractor to install a deceleration lane at the Safe Harbor development. Deceleration lanes enable a vehicle that is exiting the roadway to decrease their speed to a rate at which it can safely leave the main travel lane. This work will be performed weather permitting.
  • Beginning Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 7 a.m., the outside (right) lane of US 80 E from Butler Street to Hamilton Road in Bossier City will be closed. This lane closure is scheduled to be in place for approximately six weeks, and is necessary to allow Bossier City’s contractor to make improvements to Hamilton Road at US 80 as part of the ongoing Walter O. Bigby Carriageway project. This work will be performed weather permitting.
  • Beginning Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 7 a.m., the southbound outside (right) lane of LA 3 (Benton Road) will be closed from Melrose Avenue to Citizens Bank Drive in Bossier City. This lane closure is scheduled to be in place for approximately four weeks, and is necessary to allow the contractor for the Walter O. Bigby Carriageway project to continue construction on the new roadway that will tie in to Benton Road. The Carriageway project is being managed by the City of Bossier City. This work will be performed weather permitting.
  • Effective Feb. 14, 2024, LA 3015 (Airline Drive) southbound at Murphy Street in Bossier City will be reduced to one lane. This lane closure will remain in place until further notice, and is necessary to allow the City of Bossier City’s contractor to perform subsurface repairs related to their utility system. This work will be performed weather permitting.
  • Beginning Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 at 6 a.m., there will be intermittent lane closures on LA 157 near the intersection with LA 3227 in Haughton. This traffic configuration is anticipated to last approximately three months, and is necessary to allow for concrete patching operations related to the current intersection realignment project at LA 3227. This work will be performed weather permitting.
  • In an effort to enhance safety and help ensure effective traffic flow, commercial vehicles such as 18-wheelers are prohibited from driving through the I-20 reconstruction zone in Bossier City, effective Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Previous messaging since the start of the project has strongly urged commercial traffic to utilize the primary detour of I-220, but this change will mean that vehicles not adhering to the detour may be issued a citation under Louisiana Revised Statute 32:237. The current traffic configuration includes several narrow bridges that have proven difficult for large commercial vehicles to navigate, resulting in incidents that impact traffic for long periods of time. Digital message boards are placed ahead of each I-220 interchange in Shreveport and Bossier City, as well as at the on and off-ramps at the interchanges within the reconstruction zone, directing those trucks not to enter I-20. This change is also aimed at ensuring major reconstruction work continues to make significant progress, as incidents involving 18-wheelers can impact this work due to the nature of the cleanup and removal process. All drivers should be aware of changing traffic conditions that can occur at any time, particularly in a construction area. Be sure to remove all distractions, leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you, and adhere to posted speed limits. Travelers may check www.511la.org or download the Louisiana 511 mobile app to monitor conditions in real time. Click here to access additional resources and project information.
  • DOTD announced Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023 that preliminary site work as begun for the $361 million project to build a new LA 511 (Jimmie Davis Bridge) over the Red River connecting Bossier and Caddo parishes. While major elements of the project, such as the new bridge and roadway approaches, are still in the design phase, the traveling public will notice preliminary activity taking place near the foot of the existing bridge. Clearing and grubbing is currently underway, which is a process that involves the removal of various types of vegetation that are located in the right-of-way. Additionally, a crane has been assembled on site, and steel has arrived for the purpose of assembling a trestle bridge that will be used by work crews during construction of the new bridge spans. Major construction on the new four-lane bridge, which will be located just north of the existing structure, is still about a year away, as design work continues. The design phase also includes the transformation of the existing bridge into a linear park connecting the existing bicycle and pedestrian trails on each side of the Red River. The Jimmie Davis Bridge is a design-build project that is expected to take approximately five years to fully complete.
  • DOTD has announced the I-20 major rehabilitation project currently underway in Bossier City will be shifting into Phase 2 of construction the night of Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023 for the westbound direction. This change means traffic will be shifted from the inside (left) lane where it currently flows to the outside (right) lane where the contractor has completed the installation of the temporary diversion pavement in order to handle vehicles. The traffic shift for the eastbound direction is scheduled to take place the night of Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, weather permitting. Motorists will also notice the orange cones and barrels have been replaced with concrete barricades to separate the travel lanes from the reconstruction area. This transition is an important milestone in this project, as this marks the beginning of the demolition work to start removing the existing pavement and roadway base for eventual replacement. Once both directions of the interstate are fully shifted into Phase 2, this portion of work is anticipated to last approximately 10 to 11 months, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors. Remember to remove all distractions while behind the wheel, drive cautiously through the construction zone, and be aware of crews and equipment on site. I-220 remains the primary detour for avoiding congestion related to the construction project, and all trucks (commercial vehicles) are urged to use the detour route. Click here to visit the project page and find additional resources and information.
  • On Nov. 8, DOTD announced the start of a $4.1 million project to provide the first phase of a number of improvements to the LA 3227 @ LA 157 intersection in Haughton. Preliminary work will begin soon in the form of clearing and grubbing ahead of the utility relocation period, which is anticipated to last five to six weeks in order for SWEPCO to move utility poles that are located within the project limits. Additionally, asphalt patching work on LA 157 is anticipated to begin the week of Nov. 13, 2023, so intermittent lane closures will be necessary. Traffic will be allowed through the construction zone via flagging operations. Motorists should be prepared for possible delays and slow-moving traffic while this work is underway. This project includes widening the busy LA 157 corridor from two to five lanes from approximately Ragan Lane to LA 3227 near the Pilot truck stop. The additional lanes will be added to the east side of LA 157. The purpose of this first phase is to set the stage for the relocation of LA 3227 to allow for much improved traffic flow through the area, which is home to a number of new developments and is located just off the interchange with I-20. The second phase, which will include the construction of the new LA 3227 on a different alignment, will be done in a future project. The entire project is anticipated to be complete in spring of 2024, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
  • Beginning Aug. 10, 2023, Antrim Road in the north part of the parish will be closed until further notice due to an accident that has caused major damage to a bridge. Parish officials say the bridge was damaged early Thursday morning when a large truck hit the structure. This bridge is located .8 mile east off LA Highway 3. Parish police jury highway department crews are expected to begin repair work after assessment of the damage has been completed. For residents and emergency personnel, address ranges 100 – 260 Antrim Rd. can be accessed from Highway 3. Address Ranges 270 – 550 Antrim Rd. can be accessed from Highway 157.

  • DOTD announces Thursday, March 23, 2023 that the first of two projects to install the flashing yellow left turn arrow traffic signals in the central region. The first project (Part 1) includes the installation of the foundation, mast arm, and signal work for 30 locations in Natchitoches, Avoyelles, Sabine, Vernon, and Winn parishes. These upgraded signals will only be installed at intersections where a protected left turn (left turn arrow) and designated left turn lane already exist. Currently, the contractor for the $2.8 million project is installing concrete foundations for the new mast arms that hold traffic signals at various locations. Motorists can expect to see the new signals operational in the next few months. The second project (Part 2), anticipated to go to bid in April of 2024, includes signal upgrades in Rapides Parish. Please note that letting dates are often subject to change based on a variety of factors. Flashing yellow arrow signal indications feature a flashing yellow arrow, in addition to the traditional red, yellow, and green signals. When illuminated, the flashing yellow arrow allows waiting motorists to perform a left-hand turn after yielding to oncoming traffic. Oncoming traffic has a green light, so drivers must wait for a safe gap in the oncoming traffic before turning. Flashing yellow arrow signals provide more opportunities for motorists to make a left-hand turn and reduce delays when traffic is light. Motorists will eventually encounter the new flashing yellow arrows on all state-maintained traffic signals across Louisiana where a protected left turn already exists, as part of a federal standard for implementation of the signals. • Effective Sept. 6, 2023, the LA 2 Alt. bridge over Indian Creek is closed to traffic due to the condition of the structure. This bridge is located approximately one mile west of the Claiborne Parish line, and about two miles east of the Village of Shongaloo. This bridge will remain closed until a planned construction project that is currently in development commences. At this time, that replacement project is scheduled to go to bid in July of 2024, though it’s important to note those dates can and often change based on funding availability, project development, and other factors. Currently, there is no timeline on reopening the bridge. DOTD will issue an update when that information becomes available. Restrictions/Permits: Total bridge closure at the specified location. • DOTD announces a project to replace a 63-year-old bridge along the I-20 corridor. The LA 531 overpass in Minden will be removed and replaced as part of a $19.3 million project, which will ensure continued access to businesses and surrounding communities for years to come. The contractor has already completed the clearing and grubbing portion of work to clear the site of vegetation and other material. The project is currently in the utility relocation phase, a period of time given to any companies that own utilities within the project limits to move those so construction work can begin. This phase is anticipated to last until mid-May of 2023. Following utility relocation, work on the new overpass will begin. The existing bridge will remain open to traffic while construction on the new structure is underway. This project also includes two single-lane roundabouts that will be built at each of the interchange ramps to ensure smooth traffic flow and improved safety while entering and exiting the interstate. Some lane closures on I-20 will be necessary as construction progresses, in addition to some nighttime ramp closures. The goal is always to keep traffic impacts to a minimum, while still allowing work on the project to move forward. Any lane or ramp closures will be communicated in advance via the MyDOTD email subscription system, and signage will be posted alerting motorists as they approach the work zone. The entire project is anticipated to be complete in mid 2025, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that may impact construction timelines.
  • DOTD announces a project to replace four bridges in the parish, including the Dorcheat Bayou bridge on LA 160 that has been closed since June of 2021.This $9.3 million project was awarded to W.L. Bass Construction Inc., and is set to begin in early October of 2022. Work will start off with clearing and grubbing at the site of the Dorcheat Bayou bridge on LA 160, the largest of the four structures. The contractor will then begin the removal of the existing closed bridge, which is located approximately 1.6 miles west of the intersection with LA 3008. Other work associated with these bridge replacements includes grading, drainage structures, pavement patching, roadway base, and asphalt overlay. Once the first bridge is replaced, the contractor will mobilize to begin removal and replacement of the other three smaller bridges, also located along LA 160. The entire project (removal and replacement of all four bridges) is anticipated to be complete in spring of 2024. Construction progress is always dependent on weather conditions and numerous other factors. Motorists are currently detouring using US 371, LA 2, and LA 159.
