New COVID-19 infections remain below recent peak in Pa.

Pennsylvania reported 4,178 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, with the number again falling below the daily average of more than 5,000 new cases in early October.

Pennsylvania hospitals on Wednesday were caring for 2,838 COVID-19 patients, up from 2,798 on Tuesday, but below the recent high of more than 3,000. That included 663 in intensive care, down from 681 on Tuesday.

The state reported 142 new COVID-19 deaths, raising its pandemic toll to 31,197.

The state said 13.6 million vaccinations have been given in the 66 Pennsylvania counties not including Philadelphia, which has its own vaccination program. The state said 71.4% of residents 18 or older are fully vaccinated.
