CT Coronavirus Red Zone Map: 10 Towns Added, 2 Removed

Only a handful of very small Connecticut towns remain outside state's worst areas for coronavirus infections.

CONNECTICUT — Only a handful of small Connecticut towns remained outside the state’s red zone for coronavirus infections Friday as the virus continues its stubborn and accelerating spread across the state.

Any town that averages 15 or more coronavirus infections daily per 100,000 people over two weeks is listed in the red zone. Bolton and Voluntown were the only towns removed from the red zone this week. Ashford, Bridgewater, Colebrook, Eastford, Guilford, Norfolk, Pomfret, Preston, Sharon and Stafford were added to the list.

  • North Stonington
  • Voluntown
  • Scotland
  • Bolton
  • Union
  • Hartland
  • Canaan
  • Warren
  • Roxbury
  • Bolton

New Haven, Fairfield and Litchfield counties all had over 50 new daily coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents between Nov. 15 and 28. Fairfield County’s positive test rate reached 8 percent, followed by New Haven at 7.4 percent.

The state averaged 47.6 daily cases per 100,000 residents and a 6.4 percent positive test rate this week; that is up slightly from 45.1 cases and 6.2 percent from last week's report.

Danbury continues to struggle with coronavirus infections, holding the second-highest per capita rate in the state and the highest positive test rate over the past two weeks.

The towns with the most average daily cases per 100,000 population this week were:

  1. Waterbury 98.6
  2. Danbury 91
  3. Wolcott 85.8
  4. New Britain 81.5
  5. Bridgeport 76.2
  6. Meriden 76.1
  7. Hartford 74.2
  8. Sterling 71.8
  9. Torrington 71.4
  10. Watertown 68.7

The towns with the highest positive test rate over the two weeks were:

  1. Danbury: 13.8 percent
  2. Sterling: 12.8 percent
  3. Bridgeport: 11.8 percent
  4. Waterbury: 11.5 percent
  5. New Britain: 10.8 percent
  6. Wolcott: 10.2 percent
  7. Franklin: 10 percent
  8. Ansonia: 9.7 percent
  9. Prospect: 9.5 percent
  10. Stamford: 9.5 percent

Connecticut health officials recommend the following for towns in the red zone:

  • Individuals: Limit trips outside home, avoiding gatherings with non-family members. High-risk individuals should stay home.
  • Communities: Cancel public events and limit community gathering points, alert residents via reverse 911 system.
  • Organized group activities: Postpone all indoor activities. Postpone outdoor activities where mask wearing or social distancing cannot be maintained at all times.
  • Prekindergarten-grade 12 schools: In collaboration with local health department and superintendent, consider more distance learning if cases are greater than 25 per 100,000 residents per day over a two-week average.
