can we get a Zeke Nnaji pregame piano anthem because wow that talent

— Madelyn Burke (@MadelynBurke) November 19, 2020

The 21st Century deserves its own version of “Roundball Rock,” especially now that John Tesh is canceled.

22. Zeke Nnaji, PF, Arizona (Denver Nuggets)

I’m very much would not have predicted this. His “get to know me” bit is about him being a talented pianist. Including a Michael Franks shoutout. Raise your head if you were expecting that during this broadcast.

I completely forgot that Doc Rivers was now head coach of the 76ers. Listen: there’s been a lot of stuff going on this year.

21. Tyrese Maxey, SG, Kentucky (Philadelphia 76ers vis Oklahoma City Thunder)

And there’s a lot of screaming from Tyrese Maxey’s camp when he’s chosen with the 21st pick.

@HunterFelt Talking of the Nuggets, surely Tyrell Terry must be on their minds. I'd take him over Precious. They need as much shooting and D on their roster as possible to pair with a genius like Jokic, even if he's just a back-up. But they'll probably bet big again on Hampton.

— Mango Jenkins (@FunsoBanlow) November 19, 2020

I honestly forgot about Hampton here and I feel like maybe some teams have as well.

20. Precious Achiuwa, PF, Memphis (Miami Heat)

No-brainer selection the Miami Heat, he seems like the exact right player to join a Heat team coming off a surprising Finals appearance.

And now we have an interview with new Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash, even though the player that the Nets just selected will not actually be a Net. Makes perfect sense.

19. Saddiq Bey, PF, Villanova (Detroit Pistons via Brooklyn Nets and some additional detours)

Okay there’s a lot that happened here, but this is the quickest way to explain it: the Brooklyn Nets made this selection for the Detroit Pistons, who received it as part of an elaborate trade.

Sources: The Clippers are sending No. 19 pick via Brooklyn to the Pistons and receiving Luke Kennard. Nets received Landry Shamet.

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 19, 2020

Fair enough! The Denver paper is hoping for Josh Green, Tyrese Maxey, Precious Achiuwa, Isaiah Stewart (oops, gone), or Jalen Smith (darn, also gone).

— TRW (@trw_co) November 19, 2020

Of the ones still availalbe, I’d take Precious Achiuwa who I’m a tad surprised is still up here.

18. Josh Green, SG, Arizona (Dallas Mavericks)

The Mavericks select Josh Green who is from Arizona via Australia. His particular little “about me” segment is about Australian rules football.

17. Aleksej Pokusevski, PF, Serbia (Oklahoma City Thunder via Minnesota Timberwolves)

And one of our first international “unicorns” of the draft.

16. Isaiah Stewart, C, Washington (Detroit Pistons via Portland Trail Blazers)

This is the Trail Blazers pick, but he’s heading to the Pistons. We’re heading into the area of the draft order where it starts getting a bit complicated.

Who do you think will be available for the Nuggets?

— TRW (@trw_co) November 19, 2020

By the time of the early 20s, drafting becomes way more of an art than a science so I honestly couldn’t guess.

15. Cole Anthony, PG, North Carolina (Orlando Magic)

And there’s Cole Anthony, maybe a few spots lower than many would have thought. And, hey, random Spike Lee cameo!

@HunterFelt Hi Hunter! How do you feel about Cole Anthony? Lots of uncertainty with his injury but some places are touting him as a potential steal and solid player. Thanks!

— Alex Williams (@AlexWil24434103) November 19, 2020

He absolutely has potential to be the “I can’t believe the X got him with the Yth pick” player of the Draft (and there always is one, just ask Tyler Herro).

@HunterFelt The Celtics being within a little luck and better decision-making of being able to have Tyler Herro, Matisse Thybulle, and Tyrese Haliburton on tiny contracts, to grow under and help the bigger names, feels like proof that the Isaiah Thomas karma is real and enduring.

— Mango Jenkins (@FunsoBanlow) November 19, 2020

I’ll say this: the trading down to pick Jayson Tatum move ended up working so well that it’s hard to complain about the rest although I still do.

14. Aaron Nesmith, SF, Vanderbilt (Boston Celtics)

(Long, long sigh.) I guess Danny Ainge felt he needed a shooter here?

@HunterFelt where do you see RJ Hampton going at this point?

— Gareth Olver 〓〓 (@GBO26) November 19, 2020

In the next 2-3 picks, I think? I know that’s not incredibly specific, but we’re getting close to when he’s going to be the most attractive player remaining.

13. Kira Lewis Jr. PG, Alabama (New Orleans Pelicans)

Honestly, after landing Zion Williamson last time around, it doesn’t matter at all if Kira Lewis Jr. ends up panning out or not. I am going to assume this makes Cole Anthony as the Celtics’ pick.

This also pretty much puts an end to any thoughts of the Boston Celtics trading up in this draft, which I was convinced would be their best move considering how many picks they had in this draft. I should just stop predicting anything.

12. Tyrese Haliburton, PG, Iowa State (Sacramento Kings)

And Haliburton doesn’t even last long enough to tease Boston. The Kings gladly take him with the very next pick and the ESPN guys immediately start gushing about him.

11. Devin Vassell, SG, Florida State (San Antonio Spurs)

This selection official makes Tyrese Haliburton the guy falling in the draft which means that he will be taken the pick right before whenever the Boston Celtics have their first shot.

10. Jalen Smith, PF, Maryland (Phoenix Suns)

Phoenix Suns select Smith, who looks like a PF who could pitch-in as a center. This is all great, but I was really expecting at least one trade by this point.

Mary Waltz:

What will happen to Obi Tappin? He will either be a classic bust. Or, he will be great and the Knicks will trade him for a handful of past their prime stars and Obi will blossom into a hall of famer.

I’m thinking the second career path.

9. Deni Avdija, SF, Israel (Washington Wizards)

And the 6-foot-10 forward from Israel sneaks inside the Top 10. The ESPN guys really love this pick.

@HunterFelt Teared-up at every single pick. It's lovely to see the joy and to imagine what it must all mean to the player and their family. (At the exact same time, a lesser part of my brain is ordering my eyes to scour the scene for the uncle or two that's rubbing their hands.)

— Mango Jenkins (@FunsoBanlow) November 19, 2020

We have had a lot of crying throughout the night. Just about every player has gone through difficult circumstances to get to where there are now. It’s a shame that this all had to happen in this particular historical moment.

8. Obi Toppin, PF, Dayton (New York Knicks)

If the New York Knicks make a selection and Knicks fans aren’t there to boo it, have they really made a pick? The Knicks pick Obi Toppin, who is probably the best available player remaining and absolutely the best name in the entire draft. It’ll be interesting to see how the Knicks eventually screw him up.

7. Killian Hayes, PG, France (Detroit Pistons)

There’s a lot of international players being picked already. The commentators use the word “crafty” to describe him. Twice.
