SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah college students will save a little cash from now on when buying textbooks.

The Utah Tax Commission has ruled that books fall under a school's educational mission, which means they're exempt from sales tax. The commission's decision follows the lobbying efforts of a group of student government leaders.

One student advocate says the decision could save each student as much as $60 per year.

The tax break will only cover course materials, and only if they're sold at campus bookstores. Other supplies, such and pencils and notebooks, will still be taxed normally.

The change will go into effect April 1.
