AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Longhorns appear to be trending toward two bowl destinations — San Antonio’s Alamo Bowl or Orlando’s Camping World Bowl.

Now that the dust has settled on Championship Saturday, here are the latest developments for Texas’ bowl game prospects.

With Oklahoma’s 30-23 overtime win against Baylor in the Big 12 title game, the Sooners are almost certainly heading to the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 seed.

Baylor will represent the conference in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia (it remains to be seen if the Bulldogs will actually claim to care about their bowl match-up this year).

With the top two teams pretty much set in stone as far as postseason placement, there are four Big 12 teams still needing to be assigned.

Texas finished in a four-way tie for third place in the conference with Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Iowa State. However, the Big 12 bowl agreement doesn’t place a team in a game based off the standings.

After the College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six bowl games claim their Big 12 teams, these bowl partners may select any bowl-eligible Big 12 team when it’s their turn to draft.

It has been reported that Texas looks very attractive to the folks in charge of the Alamo Bowl. Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express News reported on Monday that Alamo Bowl officials were weighing the pros and cons of an invite for Texas or Kansas State.

Mark Schlabach of ESPN and Bill Bender of The Sporting News each project the Longhorns to San Antonio for a New Year’s Eve clash. The potential opponent could be USC or California.

The Longhorns would also be a prime candidate for the Camping World Bowl. CBS Sports analyst Jerry Palm is sticking to his prediction of Texas and Notre Dame in Orlando, Florida. Jason Kirk of Banner Society has the same prediction.

The College Football Playoff will select its four teams at 11 a.m. Sunday. Bowl match-ups will start trickling out after the final four championship-worthy teams are announced.
