Do you really own the car you bought?

Couple finds VIN doesn't match paperwork

You have a lot on your mind when buying a car. Likely you compare prices and loan rates.

But you also need to make sure the vehicle you get is actually the one you bought. It took one couple months to get their title mess cleared up.

They bought a truck, but later found the Vehicle Identification Number or VIN didn't match the VIN on their purchase agreement.

The truck with their VIN was in another state.

So, even though they had paid off the $33,000 price, they didn't really own the car in their paperwork.

And they were worried that their insurance may not cover them if there's an accident.

An insurance expert says this couple is covered because they let their insurance company know of the discrepancy.

But to prevent other problems, and to sell the car, they needed a new title.

And they did get that new title 8 months later.
