Los Angeles Rams exercise fifth-year option on QB Jared Goff’s contract

In absolutely non-shocking fashion, Jared Goff is here to stay.

In the least surprising news ever, the Los Angeles Rams have officially exercised the fifth-year option on QB Jared Goff’s contract, per Head Coach Sean McVay:

This one was obviously a no-brainer for many reasons. The franchises leader has totaled 24 wins out of 31 games, 63.6% completion, 8,492 yards, 60 touchdowns, 19 interceptions, two pro bowls, and a Super Bowl berth since the new regime began under McVay in 2017.

Here’s the price tag on the fifth-year option in 2020, per Spotrac:

For what looked like a miserable rookie season, things turned around marvelously quickly with Goff looking the part as one of the leagues best young quarterbacks, ultimately taking another step forward as one of the best quarterbacks plain-and-simple in 2018.

The Rams sound like they have full intentions (they should) to continue to build around Goff moving forward. The fifth-year option was a sure-fire guarantee, though he may ultimately never even play under it as a major contract extension looms.
