Bull Dogs blank THN

TERRE HAUTE — No. 12-ranked Columbus North won all five matches in straight sets Saturday in a 5-0 Conference Indiana win at Terre Haute North.

Nathan Lin beat Cade Morris 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Matthew Liu downed Jaewon Jung 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Joseph Kloepfer topped Max Marietta 7-6 (3), 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (4-0, 1-0).

Columbus North’s Anvay Atram and Amrit Kar defeated Mark Hankins and John Lee 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Luke Enneking and Eric Stavnheim beat Mason Lubbehusen and Clayton Stultz 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles take second

NASHVILLE — Brown County finished second Saturday in its Steve Makurat Invitational. Brownstown Central won with 11 points to nine for the Eagles, three for Greencastle and two for Southwestern (Shelby).

Reid Davis at No. 3 singles and Spencer Blee and Noah Cochran at No. 2 doubles won their brackets for Brown County. Nolan Patterson at No. 2 singles and Aiden Burt and Eli Sichting at No. 2 doubles finished second, and Josh Miller was third at No. 1 singles.

Bull Dogs finish sixth

LEBANON — Co-No. 6 Columbus North finished sixth in the Hall of Fame Classic with a 339 at Trophy Club. No. 2 Evansville North won with a 307, and No. 1 Carmel was second with a 313.

Nathaly Munnicha finished fourth individually with a 3-over-par 75 to lead the Bull Dogs. Ella Wilks carded an 85, Gwen Anderson added an 89, Yestika Nischol shot 90 and Macy Euler had a 93.

Olympians take third

FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus East shot a season-best 366 to finish third in Saturday’s New Albany Invitational. Floyd Central won with a 309, and New Albany was second with a 337 at Valley View.

Harley Gant led the Olympians with a career-best 81. Peyton Meier carded a 91, Carter Gant added a 95, Cristen Martinez shot 99 and Katie Hong had a 105.

Eagles finish fifth

BRAZIL — Brown County finished fifth with a 419 in Saturday’s Western Indiana Conference Tournament at Forest Park. Host Northview won with a 378.

Annika Evenson led the Eagles with a 97 to finish 10th individually and earn All-Conference honors. Abby Padgett carded a 106, Christy Sebastian added a 107, Avery Patterson shot 109 and Ainslie Winton had a 110.

Crusaders, Jets tie

HOPE — Columbus Christian and Hauser played to a 2-2 tie on Friday.

Grant Young and Isaac Ridder scored goals for the Crusaders (1-2-1). Owen Reed and Gavin Lustig had assists. Gavin Spurgeon recorded 13 saves.

Zach Weichman and Emily Harker scored goals for for the Jets (0-2-2). Cameron Scott had an assist, and Will Walters posted one save.

Tiger Cubs top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Greencastle jumped out to a 5-1 halftime lead and went on to hand Brown County an 8-3 WIC loss.

Ricky Stanley, Sam Normile and Cameron Payne scored goals for the Eagles (0-3, 0-1), who were outshot 19-6.

East girls take second

AURORA — The Columbus East girls finished second Saturday in South Dearborn’s Moores Hill Invitatinal. Batesville won with 28 points to 69 for the Olympians.

Chloe Krueger finished fifth in 21 minutes, 10.0 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) to lead East. Laurel Knight took 11th in 22:13.7, while Jordan Spurgeon was 15th (23:12.3), Olivia Shoaf 21st (23:32.8) and Riley Carothers 23rd (23:43.4).

The Olympian boys came in seventh with 223 points. Batesville won with 43.

Mason Curry led East with a 39th-place finish in 20:23.3. Cayden Lynott took 43rd in 21:03.1, while Jesse Schroer was 44th (21:21.5), Derek Patchett 47th (21:40.8) and Kaden Wise 50th (22:41.0).

South Decatur girls win

HOPE — South Decatur won the girls title, and Hauser’s boys and girls both finished third in Saturday’s Hauser Invitational.

The Cougar girls scored 29 points to 33 for Waldron, 69 for Hauser and 97 for Edinburgh. Oldenburg Academy won the boys meet with 46 points to 56 for Blue River Valley, 68 for Hauser, 83 for South Decatur and 90 for Waldron.

Kate Hamilton led the Cougar girls with a fifth-place finish in 25:45. Bridget Nobbe took sixth in 25:57, while Emma Gatewood was eighth (27:01), Brayley Sundal ninth (27:38) and Clair Schoettmer 12th (27:42).

For the Jets, Amanda Steward finished 11th in 27:39. Reiss Kistler took 13th in 28:00, while Kaitlyn Everroad was 18th (29:58), Tammy Essex 20th (30:45) and Lexi Tallent 30th (36:53).

The Lancers’ Ciera Myers, Hannah Pile an Briana Tomlin finished 22nd, 23rd and 24th in 32:00, 32:37 and 33:00. Alana Hobbs took 31st in 39:12, and Chloe Greathouse was 32nd in 40:13.

In the boys race, Hauser’s Ryan Ault finished third in 19:21. Alex Bower took ninth in 20:05, while Colin Kistler was 13th (21:04), Cameron Toole 20th (21:59) and Austin Cowan 35th (27:12).

South Decatur’s Trevor Newby finished fourth in 19:35. Jack Hamilton took 16th in 21:16, while Tyler Hibberd was 22nd (22:05), Bradley Walling 24th (22:12) and Chase Kalli 26th (22:15).

Edinburgh had four runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team. Noah Detling finished 27th in 22:52, while Parker Young was 42nd (20:36), Jayden Kohr 43rd (31:54) and Ethan Campbell 46th (49:52).

BC boys, JC girls 11th

FRANKLIN — Brown County’s boys with 270 points and Jennings County’s girls with 306 points both finished 11th in Saturday’s Franklin Invitational. Center Grove won the boys meet with 35 points, and Franklin edged Center Grove 55-58 for the girls title.

Chase Austin finished fifth in 16:47.90 to lead the Eagle boys. Cord Smith took 53rd in 18:44.47, while Rhett Silbaugh was 59th (18:55.07), Blake Wagler 87th (19:34.57) and Waylon Patrick 90th (19:38.70).

Halle Franks led the Panther girls with a 28th-place finish in 21:43. Elizabeth Evans took 49th in 22:54, while Grace Gambrel was 80th (24:44), Rilee Hicks 107th (26:50) and Reagan Brown 109th (26:53).

Brown County had three girls runners. Hadley Gradolf finished 10th in 20:43, while Emma DeBord was 52nd (23:04) and Madalyn Purlee 63rd (23:34).

Panthers edge Raiders

VERSAILLES — Morgan Lane scored a pair of first-half goals to lead Jennings County to a 2-1 win Saturday at South Ripley.

Lily Schildknecht and Lexi Giltner had assists for the Panthers (2-4), who outshot the Raiders 17-1. Cheyenneanna Leslie recorded one save.

Eagles are runner-up

NASHVILLE — Brown County beat Indian Creek 26-24, 24-26, 15-8 and Edinburgh 25-22, 25-17 before falling to Bedford North Lawrence 25-15, 25-16 to finish second in Saturday’s Brown County Invitational.

Mary Rygiel pounded 13 kills, Abigail Watson had four blocks, Milly Patrick notched 29 digs and Londyn Koester served four aces to lead the Eagles (3-3).

Following its loss to Brown County, Edinburgh (3-10) fell to Indian Creek 25-21, 25-19 and beat Owen Valley 18-25, 25-22, 16-14.

Panthers take fifth

SCOTTSBURG — Jennings County went 2-2 to finish fifth in the Scottsburg Tournament. The Panthers lost to Silver Creek 25-10, 25-15 and Jasper 25-20, 25-14 before beating Cloverdale 25-18, 25-17 and downing Scottsburg 25-17, 24-26, 15-11 in the fifth-place match

Juliann Woodard pounded 22 kills and 26 blocks. Stella Milspaugh tallied 35 digs and five aces to lead the Panthers (3-6). Liz Ertel also served five aces.

Trinity goes 2-1

BROWNSTOWN — Class A No. 2 Trinity Lutheran went 2-1 in the Brownstown Central Invitational. beat East Central 25-13, 25-15 and Covenant Christian 25-17, 25-19 before falling to Bloomington South 25-15, 25-17.

Sydney Jaynes pounded 24 kills and eight blocks, and Ruthie Bingham, who filled in for starting setter Bailey Reynolds who was at her sister’s wedding, recorded 57 assists and nine aces to lead the Cougars (5-2). Kamzi Gross notched 23 digs.

Also for Trinity, Bailey Tabeling tallied 16 kills, and Kennedy Hoffman and 12 kills and three aces. Stella Kleffman contributed 18 digs, and Elly Carter had 17 digs.

Eagles top Panthers

NASHVILLE — Kody Walsh ran 4 yards for a touchdown with about a minute left in the game to give Brown County a 12-7 win against Jennings County on Friday.

The Panthers (0-2) had the ball and a 7-6 lead late in the game, but the Eagles (2-0) recovered a fumble near midfield with about 3 minutes remaining and drove for the winning score.

Waunblee Roux scored Brown County’s first touchdown on a 17-yard run in the first quarter. Jennings quarterback Peyton Hayden ran one in to give the Panthers a 7-6 lead at halftime.

The Eagles made five trips to red zone, but came away with only the two scores.

“They’re a good ballcub,” Brown County coach Randy Minniear said of the Panthers. “They hit. They don’t make a lot of mistakes. They’re well coached, and they played exceptionally well. It was a really tough, hard-nosed game. It was a great victory for us because of the way we had to do it.”

Chargers clip Lancers

GREENSBURG — North Decatur jumped out to a 51-0 halftime lead Friday and went on to hand Edinburgh a 58-8 defeat.

Quarterback Riley Palmeter scored on an 18-yard keeper midway through the fourth quarter to put the Lancers (0-2) on the board. Palmeter then ran for the 2-point conversion.
