Update 20/08/21: The Cambridges open up about how they're dealing with the passing of Prince Philip
Prince William and Kate Middleton have disclosed how they're coping with the loss of Prince Philip following his passing in April.
On August 18 the Twitter account Gert's Royal Replies shared a photo of a note they received from Cambridges which features a photo of the Duke of Edinburgh in 2012 and a message which reads: 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thank you for your kind words following the death of The Duke of Edinburgh.
'Their Royal Highnesses have been incredibly moved by the many thoughtful messages they have received in recent weeks. They will all miss their much loved grandfather and great-grandfather, but your message has provided great comfort at this difficult time.'
On April 9 Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip had died at the age of 99.

Update 15/4/21: Kensington Palaces Shares Unseen Photos Of Prince Philip And The Queen With Their Great-Grandchildren
Days after paying tribute to his grandfather, Prince Philip, in the week following his death at the age of 99, Prince William and Kate Middleton have shared more family photographs to commemorate the Duke of Edinburgh.
Earlier this week, the Duke of Cambridge paid tribute to his grandfather, calling him 'an extraordinary man' and shared a picture of Prince Philip with William's eldest son, Prince George, taken by Kate in 2015 (which you can read more about below).
On Wednesday, Kensington Palace shared two more photographs on Instagram, one of which was taken by budding photographer, the Duchess of Cambridge.
Shot in 2018 at Balmoral, Prince Philip and the Queen are seen surrounded by all of their great-grandchildren at the time (since then, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have welcomed their son Archie, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank welcomed a son, August and Zara and Mike Tindall welcomed their third child, a son Lucas).
In the photo, Prince George is stood at the left of the Queen, who is holding a baby Prince Louis. In between her and husband Prince Philip sits Princess Charlotte, who has her cousin Savannah Philips (daughter of Princess Anne's son Peter Philips and his ex-wife Autumn) stood behind her. Next to Prince Philip is Peter and Autumn's youngest daughter Isla who has her cousin, Lena Tindall (daughter of Zara and Mike Tindall) on her lap while Lena's older sister Mia stands on the right hand side.
Another photo shared by Prince William and Kate Middleton on the Kensington Palace social media account, was also taken at Balmoral in 2015, showing the Queen and Prince Philip surrounded by Kate Middleton holding a baby Princess Charlotte and Prince William holding hands with his son Prince George.
'Today we share, along with Members of @theroyalfamily, photographs of The Duke of Edinburgh, remembering him as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather,' the caption read.
Other members of the royal family shared personal photos too, including Prince Charles via the Clarence House account and Princess Eugenie, who posted a heartfelt tribute to her grandfather along with two photos of herself and Prince Philip, one of her as an adult with her sister Beatrice at the races and another of herself as a child while the Duke of Edinburgh pats her head.
Original story 12/4/21: Prince William Shares Previously Unseen Photo Of Duke Of Edinburgh With Great-Grandson Prince George
Prince William has made a public tribute to his grandfather, Prince Philip, days after his death at the age of 99.
The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on the morning of Friday 9 April. A statement issued by Buckingham Palace on behalf of the Queen announcing her husband of 73 years' passing said:
'It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.'
On Monday (April 12), the Duke of Cambridge followed the lead of his father and aunt and uncles by making a public statement, commemorating the life of his grandfather.
'My grandfather’s century of life was defined by service – to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family.
I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life – both through good times and the hardest days. I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her. I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!
My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead. I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job.
Prince William also chose to share a photograph in Norfolk in 2015 by Kate Middleton, showing their eldest son Prince George being picked up by his great-grandfather in a carriage, both with beaming smiles on their faces.
The Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will take place on Saturday 17 April in Windsor, with social distancing restrictions applying.
According to reports, William's younger brother Prince Harry arrived from the United States in London on Sunday in preparation for the funeral.
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex - who is pregnant with the couple's second child - was advised not to fly by her physician, her representatives have said.
