Crane collapses at Syracuse construction site

A crane at an Upstate University Hospital construction site collapsed Tuesday morning. No one was injured.

Syracuse, N.Y. — No one was injured when a crane collapsed while carrying a load of steel at a construction site near Upstate University Hospital on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The crane folded, its upper arm crashing to the ground, just after 9 a.m. at the construction site on the corner of East Adams and Sarah Loguen streets.

The crane was offloading a small load of steel from a flatbed truck at the time of the incident, Upstate spokeswoman Kathleen Froio said.

All inspections on the crane are up to date, Froio said. A team is reviewing what happened, she said.

Officials from Upstate and the Syracuse Fire Department said no one was injured in the collapse. No nearby buildings were damaged, firefighters said.

Yellow metal pieces of the crane remained on the scene, with tape blocking off sections of the site.
