Retired From Wheland Foundry After 30 Years

Scott Benn, Sr., 79, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020 in a local healthcare facility.  

He retired from Wheland foundry after 30 years of service. 

He was a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. 

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Willie “Bo” Brown; mother, LuCinda Benn; brothers, Will Benn, Lewis “Red Eye” Brown, Elmo “DoBelly” Brown, LC “Bad Boy” Brown, Arthur “Duck” Brown, Jimmie Brown, and Johnny Lee Brown; sisters, Margaret Benn Smith, Louise Brown, Hettie Brown Crockrell, and Ida Brown. 

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cora Benn; sons, Scott Benn, Jr., David (Elizabeth) Benn, both of Chattanooga, and Timothy Benn of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Latania Benn Ross, Monica Benn, Wendy Benn (Jimmie, III) Whatley, all of Chattanooga; 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Ernestine) Brown of Birmingham, AL, Reverend Jessie (Mary) Benn of Anniston, AL, Curtis (Brenda) Benn of Chattanooga, Robert “Rock” Brown of Epes, AL, and Will Brown of Livingston, AL; sisters, Diane Brown of Livingston, AL, Shirley Brown McIntyre of Epes, AL, and Bessie Brown of Livingston, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

He will lie in state on Monday, Oct. 19, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  The family service will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Ronald Woods as the eulogist. 

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
