Butler defensive end pledges to Texas Tech
Texas Tech secured an oral commitment Friday from Josh Davies-Balogun, a Texas high-school football product who played the past two years at Butler (Kan.) Community College.
As a sophomore this past season at Butler, Davies-Balogun was credited with 53 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss and 7 1/2 sacks. He also broke up two passes.
Butler listed Davies-Balogun at 6-foot-4 and 232 pounds.
He played in three games as a freshman and was credited with one tackle.
Davies-Balogun visited Kansas State in November and received a scholarship offer from the Wildcats. He also was offered scholarships by Akron, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, Nevada-Las Vegas, North Texas and Western Kentucky.
Davies-Balogun was a high-school teammate of Tech offensive lineman Will Farrar at Richmond Travis southwest of Houston. As a senior at Travis, Davies-Balogun was credited with 55 tackles, two sacks and nine quarterback pressures.
He is the 10th recruit to commit to Tech for the 2021 class and the third defensive end. Wichita Falls Rider defensive end E’Maurion Banks and Cedar Hill defensive end Charles Esters III pledged to the Red Raiders in April.

The following players have made non-binding oral commitments to Texas Tech for the class of 2021. The national signing periods are Dec. 16-18 for high-school early signees, Dec. 16-Jan. 15 for mid-year junior-year college signees and Feb. 3-April 1 for the regular signing period.
