Bahrain bags first gold in Paralympics

ManamaBahrain yesterday bagged its first gold medal in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fatima Abdulrazzaq won the first place in the shot put competition (F-53). Abdulrazzaq’s throw was recorded at 4.76 metres, ahead of Indian Deepa Malik and Greek Dimitra Korokida.

Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation President Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa dedicated the victory to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports First Deputy Chairman and Bahrain Athletic Federation President HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Shaikh Mohammed said “this honouring Bahraini achievement is the best gift to the Wise Leadership and the people of Bahrain on the occasion of Eid Al Adha”.

It’s noteworthy that more than 4,500 athletes representing 170 countries are competing in 32 events for a total of 526 medals in Rio’s 2016 Paralympic Games.
