Tennessee child rape suspect dies in fall from Orange Beach hotel window, police say

A man charged with child rape and other offenses in Tennessee died Sunday after falling out of an 11th floor window of an Orange Beach hotel, five days before he was set to appear in court, police said.

Dane Appalsammy, 52, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, died around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, said Orange Beach Police Assistant Chief Robert Howard.

Howard did not name the hotel.

Appalsammy, who was out on $10,000 bond and was in Orange Beach for a family vacation, was charged with rape of a child, aggravated sexual battery and solicitation of a minor - aggravated sexual battery in Rutherford County, Tennesee, according to court records.

Rutherford County Circuit Court records showed Appalsammy was scheduled to appear in court Friday for a status hearing.

Appalsammy, a former information systems vice president with Middle Tennessee Electric, was originally slated to leave Orange Beach Friday but extended his stay two extra days, according to a police report obtained by The Daily News Journal.

His belongings were packed as if someone was about to leave the hotel, that report stated.
