SOUTH FAYETTE, PA — BJ's Warehouse Club, a retailer similar to Costco and Sam's Club, soon could open its first Pittsburgh-area location. South Fayette commissioners on Thursday are expected to approve a plan for BJ's to build a store and a fueling site on a 10-acre site at Newbury Market.

The membership-only club has warehouse in 17 states and employed approximately 25,000 team members, both full- and part-time. Clubs are found in Pennsylvania, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Michigan.

The nearest BJ's location to Pittsburgh is in North Canton, Ohio.

The club has six million members and does $12.7 billion in annual sales, according to its website.

BJ's says it offers 25 percent or more savings on a representative basket of manufacturer-branded
groceries compared to traditional supermarket competitors. BJ's provides a curated assortment focused on perishable products, continuously refreshed general merchandise, gas and other ancillary services.

It could not immediately be determined when construction could begin or when the warehouse might open.
