Adger Man Charged With Murder

A 36-year-old Adger man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Jonathan Carroll.

BIRMINGHAM, AL The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that 36-year-old Scott Allen Pennington has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Jonathan Carroll.

The Sheriff's Office report says that just after 10:30 Sunday morning, Pennington called the Sheriff’s Office to report he had shot and killed Jonathan Carroll during an altercation along an access road to a gas well in the 4100 block of Valley Ford Road.

Victim In Adger Homicide Identified

Deputies located Pennington at Valley Ford Road and Johns Road and he took them to where he had left Carroll’s body. Detectives learned that Pennington and Carroll had been riding the dirt roads and had gotten into an argument. Pennington told them he and Carroll had gotten into an argument and he had shot Carroll in self-defense. Detectives developed evidence that did not support this claim.

Pennington was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await formal charges. On July 24, Sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Pennington with the murder of Jonathan Carroll. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $75,000.
