Coronavirus Deaths Climb In CT As Next Vaccine Phase Begins

CONNECTICUT — A climb in coronavirus-associated deaths that began in mid-November has accelerated as the state moved into the new year. The state Department of Public Health reported 76 more virus fatalities over the weekend, bringing the pandemic death toll in Connecticut to 6,679.

The coronavirus positivity rate was 4.85 percent Monday, down a bit from last week's wild ride which saw a peak of 10.72 percent Tuesday.

Coronavirus hospitalizations rose by 16 patients, bringing the total currently hospitalized to 1,114.

The number of cases of the virus is also climbing steadily. Another 6,703 have been confirmed since Friday.

The next phase of Connecticut's coronavirus vaccine rollout commenced Monday, and residents 75 and older can now register online for their vaccine. Once registered, participants in the Vaccine Administration Management System will be emailed guidance for the appointment process for receiving the vaccine.
