CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women are coming off a big victory, a resounding 38-point thumping over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday.

The triumph boosts the Islanders to 5-3.

Up next is a trip to UT-Rio Grande Valley on Thursday.

After that, they start Southland Conference play a week from Wednesday when they host Nicholls State.

The Islanders are loaded with eight seniors.

A&M-Corpus Christi coach Royce Chadwick just wants his team to get healthy.

“We would love to be undefeated, but playing in the preseason WNIT really helped us prepare our team,” Chadwick said.”We’ve had a lot of injuries. we have four guards sitting on the sidelines right now and we need to get them back before conference play.

“The girls on the court have been playing exceptional basketball. We have just had to play them for too many minutes. We got to get our players off the bench and get our depth going and hopefully we can go to the Valley and take care of business.”

The Islander men enjoyed a big weekend, too. They knocked off St. Mary’s by 28 points to improve their record to 4-5.

Up next for them is a big non-conference game at Texas A&M on Sunday.

And then, they start conference a week from Wednesday at Nicholls State.
