Granada Hills Charter girls tennis player Rena Lin was up for a new challenge after winning the L.A. City Section singles title last year. So, she teamed up with fellow senior Maddie Davenport to capture this year’s City Section doubles title.

“We had a chat at the beginning of the year, and we decided that it would be cool if she could say she won both titles — and now she can,” Granada Hills coach Archer Nishioka said.

Lin and Davenport topped Palisades’ Alex Miller and Emma Akiyama 6-1, 6-1 on Tuesday to claim the doubles championship.

“Rena hasn’t lost a tennis match her whole high school career,” said Nishioka.

Lin, a Yale commit, is a five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 20 girls tennis prospect for her class, according to TennisRecruiting.net.

Lin wasn’t the only Granada Hills player to win a title this week. Impressive Highlanders freshman Liza Tankimovich won the singles title over Ireland Amato of Palisades 6-1, 6-4.

The Granada Hills team is so talented, Tankimovich was the No. 2 singles player all season behind fellow freshman phenom Amanda Perez, however, Perez couldn’t compete in the City’s singles tournament due to a shoulder injury.

“If Amanda was healthy, she would have been the No. 1 seed and Liza would have been the No. 2, most likely,” Nishioka said proudly.

Lin, Perez and Tankimovich were undefeated in individual match play this year.

The Highlanders were just shy of the “triple crown,” coming up short in the City’s Open Division team championship, losing to Palisades 4-3.
