Today at UW-La Crosse, a first of its kind senior speed dating for companionship event.

It's a semester project for sociology professor Dawn Norris' generation and age class.

"One is just that older adults will find some companionship and have a good time here today and going forward, find a new friend," said Dr. Norris. "But beyond that we wanted to create some inter-generational contact between the mostly younger students in this class and the older generations"

Around 20 people ages 65 and up signed up for the event. They had five minutes with each person, with the option to exchange information afterward.

The event was put on by 30 students in a UW-La Crosse sociology class, with students and participants surprised about how well it all went off.
