Hurricane Sally Alabama school closings: Latest update

Hurricane Sally track 10 a.m. Tuesday

Hurricane Sally had 85 mph winds Tuesday and was crawling toward the Gulf Coast at only 2 mph. Landfall will be possible late tonight or early Wednesday morning.

Hurricane Sally is continuing to force school systems to modify their schedules after making landfall early this morning.

The National Hurricane Center said the center of the eye of Sally moved onshore near Gulf Shores around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday with winds of 105 mph, making it a category 2 hurricane.

Some systems have opted to cancel the next two days of instruction, while others said they would defer until later Wednesday to decide if they would have Thursday classes. Still others are shifted to virtual classes.

Mobile County Public Schools will remain closed Thursday and Friday. Remote instruction will resume on Monday.

Baldwin County Public Schools will remain closed through this week. This includes all Afterschool care, extracurricular activities, athletic games and practices.

The Archdiocese of Mobile Catholic Schools in Mobile and Baldwin counties will be closed Thursday and Friday.

ACCEL Day and Evening Academy will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Gulf Shores City Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Montgomery Public Schools will be closed Thursday and there will be no virtual classes.

Pike County Schools will be closed Thursday, with classes set to resume on Friday.

Brewton City Schools will be closed Thursday and will reopen Friday.

Classes at the University of South Alabama are cancelled through Friday. No online or in-person classes, events or activities will be held.. No classes, exams, events or activities will take place. Resident students who remain on campus should plan to continue to shelter in place and follow instructions from the Housing Office and Student Affairs. The dining hall will reopen Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The University of Mobile has extended remote instruction through Thursday.

Saraland City Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Dothan City Schools will dismiss at the usual time today. Houston County Schools will be closing at 1 p.m. today. Both school systems expect to reopen on Friday. Dothan City afterschool programs will continue as scheduled for Tuesday. All athletic events for this afternoon will be canceled.

Covington County Schools will be closed Thursday.

Sumter County Schools will be closed on Thursday.

Tallapoosa County Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Henry County Schools will be closed Thursday. Friday will be determined later.

Geneva County Schools will be closed on Thursday.

Ozark City Schools will have remote instruction Thursday.

Butler County Schools will be closed Thursday.

Andalusia City Schools will be closed again Thursday.

Crenshaw County Schools will be closed Thursday.

Chickasaw City Schools will be closed Thursday.

Satsuma City Schools closed Thursday and Friday.
