This year’s “Highwood Design Week” got underway Monday and along with a packed schedule of free daily events, will include auctioning a designer dog house with proceeds to go toward helping to redesign Everts Park.

“Design Week is organized by the Highwood Chamber of Commerce as part of its Highwood Area Design District initiative to promote local design-related businesses. It offers a unique opportunity for both design professionals and members of the public to interact with industry experts and HDD members as well as find inspiration and expert advice for home improvement, decorating and building projects,” according to a chamber news release announcing the event.

The release states that this year, Highwood Design Week includes educational and entertaining in-store and virtual events. The weeklong event will culminate with the “Designer Dog House Auction” Saturday at The Patio at Chicago Mike’s Ice Cream.

The lineup of events includes a “TAD Talk: Technology And Design Webinar” Tuesday, tips for “Designing Your Perfect COVID Escape” Wednesday and information on making over workspace, which is scheduled for Thursday.

Leading up to the auction, the dog houses “and one original designer dog bed” will be on display around town, the release states.

“At the finale event, people will have an opportunity to see them up close and place a silent auction bid to take one home. All auction proceeds will benefit the City of Highwood’s Everts Park project,” organizers said in the release.

The event is one of a few community events taking place live amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and officials said in the release that public health precautions will be in place.

“If conditions change and new COVID restrictions are implemented, activities will be transitioned to live virtual events on the Highwood Chamber of Commerce Facebook page,” according to the release.

Organizer said that anyone unable to physically attend the finale event auction, there may be an option to place bids online. More details would be announced on Facebook, the release states.
