Home catches fire after being struck by lightning in Vilas County

GERMAIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A home caught fire after being struck by lightning in Vilas County on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

It happened on Birchwood Drive in Vilas County around 4:37 a.m. Officials say the structure was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Multiple area fire departments responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire from spreading to nearby residences.

The scene is still active as of late Tuesday afternoon. Officials are asking the community to stay away from the area in order to let the first responders do their work.

The fire is under investigation, however, officials believe it is the result of a lightning strike. The home is a complete loss. 

No injuries were reported during this incident.
