Waukesha Trying To Figure Out How To Go Back To School In Fall

WAUKESHA, WI — A "blended" combination of in-school and virtual learning, staggered daily in-school attendance schedules for students or staff, and full virtual learning are all plans being considered by the Waukesha School District as they determine how best to start the 2020-2021 school season this fall amid the uncertainties of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Wisconsin.

According to a letter published Monday by Waukesha School district officials, they're looking at a number of plans to get students back in class come September, "however our highest priority plan is getting our schools back to normal operating status and our students safely back to school."

f across the state later this year, making for competing priorities and directions.

"Compounding the challenges of creating the new school year plan is the myriad of information, recommendations, directives, and misinformation that comes to us multiple times per week that we need to consider in creating a quality educational plan while keeping students and staff safe and healthy. Safety of students and staff and their families must be a significant part of any plans we may pursue, officials said."

Officials said they're working on plans to accommodate parents who do not want to see their children back in a school building starting in fall, but that the main priority is to get back to normal as safely as possible.

"...our primary plan is getting schools up and running and students back to our schools. However, we do need to have these alternative plans in place," officials said Monday.
