State: 237 more virus cases in UP, including 28 in Dickinson

State data Friday showed 237 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday, including 28 cases in Dickinson County and 23 in Menominee County.

Across the border in Wisconsin, Marinette County had 37 more confirmed positives Friday to add a total of 175 new cases in a week’s time.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday listed for the past two days 42 more confirmed COVID-19 positives in Delta County, 38 in Marquette County, 28 in Dickinson County, 23 in Menominee County, 19 in Schoolcraft and Houghton counties, 17 in Chippewa County, 12 in Mackinac County, nine in Iron and Gogebic counties, seven in Alger County, six in Baraga County, three in Luce and Ontonagon counties, and two in Keweenaw County. The state recorded a new virus-related death in Houghton County as well.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 23,830 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 468 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Friday had Keweenaw County at 173 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and three confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 261 confirmed cases and 318 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 434 confirmed, 261 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 443 confirmed cases and 142 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 501 confirmed, 63 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 632 confirmed cases and 332 probable, five deaths; Baraga County, 830 confirmed cases, 146 probable and 41 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 1,145 confirmed cases and 101 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,235 confirmed cases and 374 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,309 confirmed cases and 1,744 probable, and 30 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,205 confirmed cases, 563 probable and 44 deaths, four probable; Dickinson County, 2,748 confirmed cases and 678 probable, 60 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,839 confirmed cases, 643 probable, 39 deaths and nine probable; Delta County, 4,117 confirmed cases and 901 probable, 80 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,958 confirmed cases, 1,037 probable and 68 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 6,080 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of 3,040 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 1,008,069. The state Friday added 82 deaths attributed to the virus — including 56 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,863.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had the 37 new confirmed positives in Marinette County plus 17 in Forest County, 15 in Vilas County and two in Iron County. The state added a new death in both Forest and Vilas counties.

The DHS data site Friday had Marinette County with 4,828 confirmed cases, 764 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,597 confirmed, 164 probable and 46 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,239 confirmed, 95 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 663 confirmed, 138 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 480 confirmed, 75 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data Friday showed 2,682 more positives for a total of 712,827 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 17 more virus-related deaths Friday to reach 7,912.
