PUNE: The Sangvi police on Friday arrested two waiters and a cook, working at an eatery at Walhekarwadi in Chinchwad, for their involvement in a series of thefts of high-end bicycles in Sangvi, Chinchwad and Dehu Road areas. The police have recovered 22 bicycles worth Rs1.65 lakh from the trio.
A team led by senior inspector Dnyaneshwar Sable arrested the suspects, waiters Raja Roy (20) and Sajal Biswas (26), and the cook Mantosh Sarkar (26) all from West Bengal, residing in Chinchwad.

Shrikant Patil, sub-inspector of the Sangvi police station, said, “On Thursday I was patrolling the Pimple Saudagar area along with sub-inspector Yashwant Salunke and the team, when we noticed a person riding a high-end bicycle. We stopped him and questioned him about the bicycle. When he gave vague answers, we grew suspicious and frisked him. We found a pair of pliers on him and took him to the police station for questioning,” Patil said.
During the questioning, the suspect who had identified himself as Raja Roy admitted that he had stolen that bicycle from Kate Puram Chowk in Pimple Gurav with the help of two accomplices. “We took Sarkar and Biswas into custody,” Patil said.
Patil said they have recovered another cycle from Sarkar and Biswas. It was stolen recently from the Shivaji Park area in New Sangvi. “During questioning, the trio admitted to have stolen more than 25 bicycles from different parts of Pimpri Chinchwad,” Patil said, adding, “In the last month the trio had stolen seven bicycles from the parking lot of a society in Sangvi.”
