The Short List: Hong Kong, the fence-jumper and Clooney gets married -- again
Hong Kong protests -- The 'umbrella revolution'
What's going on in Hong Kong? A lot. Pro-democracy protesters expanded their rallies today throughout Hong Kong, defying calls to disperse in a major pushback against Beijing's decision to limit democratic reforms in the Asian financial hub. Why is this happening now and why should the U.S. pay attention? It's all about democracy. And, you can't help but think about Tiananmen Square in 1989 -- and doesn't it feel a little bit the same?
More White House fence-jumper news
Think we heard it all? Nope. There's more. The man who scaled a White House fence earlier this month and breached the mansion's front door apparently got a lot farther into the White House than was previously reported. Omar Gonzalez rushed past a Secret Service agent inside and was only stopped after reaching the building's East Room, a government official confirmed Monday. So our guess is when Secret Service Director Julia Pierson goes to testify Tuesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, there will be a lot to talk about.
FAA to review facilities after Chicago air-traffic snarl
The friendly skies -- still not so friendly. The head of the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a 30-day review Monday of safety and security at agency facilities, after a contract worker allegedly set a fire at a regional air-traffic control center Friday that has forced the cancellation of more than 3,500 flights from the busy Chicago hub and continues to disrupt flights. The FAA expects the Chicago center to be fully restored by Oct. 13. So if you're flying between now and then, you might want to keep an eye on your flight.
Clooney, Alamuddin get married...again!
Not just once, but twice. Twice. Looking amazing both times. But what really matters is how ridiculously amazing George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin continue to look. Because you hear civil ceremony, and think one thing. But this wasn't any civil ceremony. The pair tied the knot again in a historic palace along Venice's Grand Canal. Check out the pictures.
Extra bites:
Really, it would be gratuitous to put another picture of George Clooney and his bride. But we think this picture in the Reader weather photos gallery is also pretty great.
And, have you see this video about couple's $100 tip?
