Loaded guns found next to 10-day-old baby during Soledad police stop
Two loaded handguns were found hidden in a baby carrier with a 10-day-old baby still in it when police made a vehicle search during a traffic stop on Tuesday, the Soledad Police Department said.
According to police, an officer spotted Gabriel Quezada driving in a "known gang area" when he allegedly saw officers and quickly drove away from them. Police followed and stopped Quezada on Metz Road between Soledad and Greenfield.
Inside the vehicle, the officer found three adults, three toddlers and the 10-day-old baby.
Quezada was found with a firearm in his waistband. Jenise Hernandez-Tejada and Raymundo Rodriguez were also removed from the vehicle. A rifle was found in the trunk of the vehicle, police said.
All three adults were taken into custody.
A search warrant was issued for the home of Quezada and Hernandez-Tejada.
An additional six weapons were found, along with ammunition, various knives, and 26 grams of cocaine, in the room they all share. Several of the weapons were determined to be "ghost guns," police reported.
Quezada, Hernandez-Tejada and Rodriguez were transported to the Monterey County Jail and lodged for child endangerment, weapons, and narcotics violations. The children were placed in protective custody.
