Virginia Pate Lee, 81, of Signal Mountain, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2009.

Virginia was born in Nashville, on May 31, 1928. She graduated from Gulf Park Junior College in Gulf Port, Ms., and attended Northwestern University in Chicago, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Virginia married her husband, Bud, and they moved to Chattanooga in 1949.

She was an active and longtime member of Central Presbyterian Church and Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, where her husband Bud has served as elder and trustee.

Virginia had been involved in the Women’s Ministries, Hospitality Ministers, and the Jones-Carruth Sunday School Class. Virginia served on the boards of King College, Children’s Home Chambliss Shelter, Calsted, Ronald McDonald House and Scenic Land School.

She was an active member of the DAR, Questers, Signal Mountain Garden Club, and served as a volunteer with Hospice of Chattanooga.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, L.W. “Bud” Lee; children, Pat Lee Martin and husband David and Less Lee and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Virginia Pate Martin, Stephen H. Martin, Taylor Lee Vinson and husband Ross, Sarah Morgan Lee and Carver E. Lee; brothers, Joe Pate and Steve Pate and wife Suzanne; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the North Chapel and again on Sunday after the service at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Services for Virginia will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating. There will be a private burial on Monday at National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made in Virginia’s name to Children’s Home Chambliss Shelter, 315 Gillespie Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37411, the Ronald McDonald House, 200 Central Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37403, or Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, 612 James Blvd., Signal Mountain, Tn. 37377.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
