Blakney leads way for Goretti in win over John Carroll

Goretti 60, John Carroll 45

BEL AIR, Md. — RJ Blakney had 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists to lead St. Maria Goretti past John Carroll (1-7, 1-5) in a Baltimore Catholic League road test Sunday.

Noah Batchelor had 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks, and Vincent Payne added 10 points and five rebounds for the Gaels (8-2, 4-1).

She Got Game Classic

BLADENSBURG, Md. — Saint James defeated Archbishop Spalding 53-41 on Friday and Friendship Collegiate 59-20 on Saturday.

Morgan Moseley had 15 points and three steals, Skylar Treadwell also scored 15 points and Gabby Grantham-Medley added 11 points for the Saints against Spalding.

Treadwell had 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals against Friendship. Grantham-Medley scored 16 points and Moseley added 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

PREP WRESTLING

Musselman Duals

INWOOD, W.Va. — Williamsport finished second in the Musselman Duals, held Friday and Saturday, winning seven of eight matches.

The Wildcats had three wrestlers go 8-0 — Zach Starr (106 pounds), Brandon Oyster (220) and Tayquon Johnson (285). Going 6-2 were Zaden Meyer (113), Brandan Myers (120), Will Custer (126), Malakai Cunningham (138), Darby Bryant (145) and Bleron Ruqi (195). Nate Anderson (170) had a 5-2 mark, while Shimon Agayo (132) and Tyler Crain (152) each went 5-3.

Smithsburg went 4-4 in its eight matches. Shane Hovermale, Josh Hood and Josh Atkinson each finished 8-0.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Schultz earns tourney MVP honors

JAMAICA, N.Y. — St. Mary’s College of Maryland junior Spencer Schultz, a Clear Spring graduate and former Herald-Mail player of the year, was named MVP of the York College Invitational following a 76-64 victory over the host York Cardinals in Saturday’s championship game.

Schultz scored 28 points and added 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season for the Seahawks (4-6).

Jefferson sweeps dual meets

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Chris Platzgraff and Sofija Lotze each won two events as Jefferson’s boys and girls each earned three victories on Saturday in the Jefferson Dual Meets at Shepherd University.

Platzgraff won the 200-yard individual medley In 2:28.14 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.20 to pace the Cougars boys (12-0). Jefferson defeated Hedgesville (76-17), Musselman (79-14) and Hampshire (83-4).

Lotze won the 200 freestyle in 1:25.75 and the 100 freestyle in 1:04.21 for Jefferson’s girls (12-0). Jefferson defeated Musselman (60-34), Hedgesville (76-16) and Hampshire (76-16).
