DESCANSO, Calif. — An 81-year-old man who went missing Sunday after leaving home to get a newspaper has been located, according to local authorities.

Kenneth Zimmerman, an 81-year-old man who went missing Sunday after leaving home to get a newspaper has been located, according to local authorities.

Kenneth Zimmerman was found Monday near Yuma by an Arizona state trooper, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said. They found him on the side of the road where his vehicle had run out of gas, deputies said.

“Thanks @Arizona_DPS for your help,” the department said in a tweet.

Prior to Monday, the sheriff’s department said Zimmerman last was seen driving toward Highway 79 from 24680 Viejas Boulevard around 12:30 p.m.

He suffers from Alzheimer’s and high blood pressure and had not taken his medication.
