Forgotten Boardwalk's Newest Beer Targets NJ Oyster Lovers

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing’s newest beer is all about the oysters. After months of conversations, oyster farm tours and oyster/beer tastings, Forgotten Boardwalk is releasing Fortune’s Fate, a Lemon Oyster Gose.

They collaborated with The Barnegat Oyster Collective’s very own Forty North Oyster Farms to produce their newest sour ale which uses Forty North’s Sugar Shack oyster, to derive the salinity for this beer.

The much-anticipated release has been teasing small batch variations available in their outdoor beer garden already this summer, according to a release from the Cherry Hill-based brewing company.

In the early 20th Century, the Barnegat Bay was once known as the oyster capital of the world. Oyster harvesting in New Jersey once created the wealthiest zip codes in the nation. Decades of over-harvesting killed most of the industry back then, but the New Jersey oyster industry is once again on the rise with both restoration and innovative farming.

“Although New Jersey’s oyster industry has been thriving, the coronavirus pandemic has placed a strain on the entire industry from the closing of dine-in restaurants,” Forgotten Boardwalk said in a release. “We are happy to collaborate and showcase this culinary project that combines two growing segments in New Jersey that are community focused, independent, and family owned and operated. Craft beer and oysters have always been a beautiful pairing and combining them has been equally delightful, especially in this beer.”

Forgotten Boardwalk delivers yet another rad work of art and story to the back of their can design featuring a 1920s-styled woman in a flapper dress that has some modern tweaks. Her tattoos include nods to Forty North with their logo on her left shoulder. In her left hand, a lemon martini with some lemon tattoos indicate the flavoring of the brew. She is adorned with pearl jewelry to symbolize a bit of that roaring twenties wealth that oyster farming brought to some New Jersey municipalities.

Forgotten Boardwalk describes its newest beer as an inviting, light sour ale with zesty lemon aromatics and wafts of sea air. Delicate but mouthwatering saltiness, a squeeze of lemon-like sourness and a dry, effervescent finish. The Lemon Gose’s siblings currently include both a Mango and a Pineapple/Mango variation and are available in their outdoor beer garden and select bars throughout the state on draft only.

Cans of the Fortune's Fate Lemon Oyster Gose are available to go in four packs at Forgotten Boardwalk in Cherry Hill and is being distributed statewide during the last week of July and through August.
