Avengers: Endgame has finally been unveiled.
Monday night’s premiere in downtown Los Angeles was the first time members of the public were able to see the Marvel Studios film, and the first reactions are coming in on Twitter.
The Hollywood Reporter has captured a snapshot of early responses to Avengers: Endgame, which is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Danai Gurira and Karen Gillan.
Endgame follows last year’s Infinity War, which earned $2 billion at the global box office and saw the villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) destroy half of all life in the universe. Marvel has kept the plot for Endgame largely under wraps, other than the obvious: The Avengers will attempt to avenge what Thanos did in Infinity War.
Fans have been concerned about spoilers and have spent a year speculating about who will live and die. The Russo Bros. penned a letter to audiences urging them not to spoil the film on social media for others. Endgame is billed as the conclusion to 11 years of storytelling that launched with 2008’s Iron Man and has seen the Marvel Cinematic Universe grow into one of the most powerful brands in Hollywood.
See a selection of the reactions below. Initial reactions were positive, with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff saying it was “too much at times,” though she noted that the payoff was “huge.” Official reviews for Avengers: Endgame will hit on Tuesday morning.

#AvengersEndgame is an astonishing, amazing film. I’ve never seen anything like it. This movie is everything I wanted to be and SO much more. Amazing.

Imagine the best possible version of #AvengersEndgame and somehow the film still surpasses all expectations. I cried 5-6 times. It’s the most emotional, most epic, MCU film. A tribute to ten years of this universe and holy shit the great fan service in this movie. Soooo good.

This can’t be understated: #AvengersEndgame is everything you want it to be and more. I am absolutely floored. A perfect reflection on the last 11 years that pays off everything in the best way possible. Without question my new favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Stunned. pic.twitter.com/5LvFw9UEBQ

#AvengerEndgame is an immensely satisfying payoff, not just to Infinity War but to all the films that came before. This is why the MCU. (And I say this as someone who was not especially enamored of Infinity War, FWIW.)

#AvengersEndgame is A LOT. Too much at times. But wow the payoff is huge. Left me proud to have invested over a decade in a franchise that delivers an inspiring exploration of what it means to be family & a hero. (Endgame also now has one of my favorite shots in the entire MCU.)

Well, that was AMAZING!!! So many emotional moments that makes it special and the future continues to shine bright for the #MCU! Go see it. MULTIPLE TIMES. #AvengersEndgame #DontSpoilTheEndgame pic.twitter.com/Yxo7hJP9Ny

So, #AvengersEndgame hits the required beats, with plenty of fan service (most of it earned) and plenty of wit. It doesn’t make a ton of sense (and the action is a comedown) but it’s unquestionably fun.

#AvengersEndgame is filled with so much comic book awesomeness that you may not be ready! Great blend of action, emotion and humor while keeping the stakes high throughout. Truly an achievement in blockbuster filmmaking.

100% this. The film has far more laughs than I was expecting and some truly agonizing moments.
More than anything, it has a lot of heart. Maybe more than any of its predecessors.
Also, it did not feel like three hours. https://t.co/R61EGxjBi4
