Kanye West faces backlash over 'nasty' $55 meal at concert: 'They need to be ashamed'

Kanye West is facing criticism after a "cold" and "nasty" $55 meal served before a recent concert left some fans demanding a refund.

West, who has been touring to promote his latest album, Jesus Is King, was in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday for one of his signature "Sunday Service" events.

The performance was preceded by an optional "Brunchella" experience, during which attendees could pay $55 for a breakfast plate, with proceeds going to Bethany Church — the space hosting the concert.

But some "Brunchella" attendees felt like they didn't get their money's worth. One concert-goer, Kimberly Kinchen, shared a photo of her $55 plate on Facebook, complaining of the cold food and small portion sizes provided by the catering company.

"This is the wonderful & COLD brunch BUFFET we are being served by Boil & Roux BR," Kinchen's post, which has now been shared more than 2,000 times, read. "The server looked at me crazy when I asked for another pancake."

The post quickly went viral, with other social media users sharing photos of their own "nasty" or "cold" plates.

"They need to be ashamed. Those pale sausage patties and stiff pancakes looked like they went straight from the freezer to the microwave," one Twitter user wrote, sharing images of Kinchen's meal and others.

The outrage quickly drew comparisons to the now-infamous meal that came to symbolize the disastrous 2017 music-fest-gone-wrong, Fyre Festival. In that case, an attendee shared a photo of their dinner from the allegedly super-luxe festival —where tickets cost between $450 and $12,000 — that included bread, sliced cheese and a salad with no dressing.

"Here's the dinner they fed us tonight," the tweet from the Bahamas-based festival, which was ultimately canceled, read.

Many blamed Kanye directly for the alleged "Brunchella" rip-off, but he reportedly had little to do with the meal. Lauryn's Fine Catering, the company that provided the meal, told TMZ it took full responsibility for Kinchen's disappointing meal.

"Kanye West and the Sunday Service collective should be disassociated with such claims surrounding the food at the event," the company said in a statement.

Still, that knowledge didn't stop fans from expressing their outrage. Many attendees also complained about the concert itself, as Kanye was reportedly an hour and a half late. There was also a VIP area at the show that some social media posts claimed was nothing more than a small, grassy hill.

West did finally arrive for the performance, bringing along his three young children and posing for photos with fans. Meanwhile, the rapper's Jesus Is King album made its Billboard debut as No. 1 on the charts, Kanye's ninth-consecutive album to do so.
