BETHEL ISLAND — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a weekend fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision, authorities said.

Just before 9:20 p.m. Saturday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to reports of a collision in the 6200 block of Bethel Island Road, East Contra Costa Fire battalion chief Jake Gonzalez said.

When firefighters arrived, they found a man who appeared to be in his 60s lying in the street and provided emergency life-saving measures.

An ambulance also arrived and joined in those measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle’s driver, who remained at the scene, was not injured. No information was immediately available on whether alcohol or substances were collision factors.
