COVID-19 in MN: 2 more deaths reported in Stearns County

ST. CLOUD — Two more Stearns County residents have died due to COVID-19, according Sunday's report from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Of the two Stearns County residents that died, one was in their early 60s and the other was in their late 70s.

Across the state, 1,364 new cases and 40 deaths were reported Sunday. Benton County and Sherburne County reported no new deaths from the disease.

Stearns County reported 38 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday. Benton County reported 20 cases and Sherburne County reported 35 new cases.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of Minnesotans who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus reached a total of 446,380 cases on Sunday and 5,927 people have died, according to MDH. 

More than 23,000 people have been hospitalized, with nearly 5,000 people requiring intensive care units. 

According to MDH, 427,468 coronavirus patients no longer need isolation.

Nearly 185,000 Minnesotans have received at a COVID-19 vaccine, according to department of health data posted Thursday. In Stearns County, 4,567 people have received at least one vaccine (2.9% of the county's population).

Globally, there have been nearly 95 million cases of COVID-19, including almost 24 million in the U.S., according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Research Center. More than 2 million people have died of the infection worldwide, including nearly 400,000 people in the U.S
