Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix has reopened to the public for the summer after a months-long closure due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The garden initially reopened to members and their guests in June. Now the general public can visit, by reservation only, in an effort to maintain reduced capacity and allow for social distancing.

Every 30 minutes, a limited number of visitors will be allowed inside with their tickets purchased in advance and printed out or ready to scan on their phones. Tickets will not be sold at the gate.

Tickets can be purchased on the garden's website or by calling 480-941-1225 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Here are the safety measures the garden has implemented:

  • Masks or other face coverings are required of visitors age 6 and older.
  • Most features are available for viewing. However, the Cactus Clubhouse, Ottosen Gallery, Gertrude's Restaurant and select trails are closed.
  • There are no docent-led tours.
  • To promote social distancing, visitors are required to stay at least 6 feet away from people in other groups, and entry and exit to the garden are one-way only.
  • Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the garden.
  • There are several touchless water bottle filling stations.
