Though "Old Town Road" ended its historic Billboard Hot 100 run back in August, the song—which became a breakthrough hit for Lil Nas X and ultimately inspired a whole fleet of official remixes—can now add Anderson .Paak's name to the long list of artists to have presented their own interpretation of the ubiquitous genre-expander.

Paak brings the Billy Ray Cyrus-featuring megahit into new territory, taking lead behind the drums with some damn impressive added textures thanks to some keys and backing vocals assistance. Catch the performance, filmed in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge and shared Monday, right up top.

Back in May, Lil Nas X himself was a special guest during Paak's headlining Boston Calling set, where he gave X the spotlight for a run-through of the standard edition of "Old Town Road."

X has now entered the "Panini" chapter of 7 promo, having shared a new DaBaby-featuring remix of the song just last week. One week earlier, he shared the official video for the track:

As for how things are coming along with X's next project, he revealed in a recent Angie Martinez interview that he’s currently only about "two percent done" with the writing. He's aiming for songs that are "more personal maybe, but still slapping" and hopes to pile up as many as 70 demos before dwindling the collection down to digestible album length.
