Roscommon coach Steven Poacher believes ‘excellent’ Paddy Tally would bring ‘defensive grit’ that Kerry footballers need

ROSCOMMON coach and Down man Steven Poacher has backed Paddy Tally to solve the Kerry footballers’ defensive woes.

Former Mourne County chief Tally has been heavily linked with a place on returning boss Jack O’Connor’s backroom team with the Kingdom.

O’Connor was formally recommended as Kerry manager for the third time on Friday with Mike Quirke and Diarmuid Murphy on board as selectors.

Many feel the Kingdom’s defensive woes have been their downfall in recent times and Poacher insists Tyrone man Tally — who quit as Down boss after three years in July — can fix those issues.

He told SunSport: “Maybe it’s what Kerry need, that bit of defensive grit Paddy would bring.

“Paddy is an excellent coach, it would probably suit him a little better being in a role where he’s not the No  1.

“Paddy has got huge strengths on the training ground, if it materialises good luck to him.”
